The birds are-a-tweeting, the bees are-a-humming, the ladies are-a-swooning and men everywhere are-a-panicking.
If you're after some romantic pointers this Valentine's Day, perhaps we could all learn a thing or two from these animated sweethearts. Do let me know what you think of the list (and if I missed anyone obvious!).
10. Fancy-Fancy (Top Cat)
This cat is one smooth operator. A little kinky too, meow.
"This is the job for me, T.C.! I'm an expert on curves!"
"Come on, baby, we could make beautiful music together!"
9. Johnny Bravo (Johnny Bravo)
He's vain, stupid, sexist and a bit too close to his "Momma" but hey, who can resist those silky lines, razor sharp movements and Elvis styled voice. It makes me go all weak at the knees. "Oohh, Mama!".
"If loving me is wrong, you don"t wanna be right!"
"Hello, 911 Emergency? There's a handsome guy in my bathroom! Hey, wait a second. Cancel that - it's only me!"
8. Popeye (Popeye the Sailor)
Admittedly a spinach addict and a sailor (one can only imagine what he got up to on those open seas), but he did show a softer side when it came to his beloved Olive Oyl.
Entangled in a love triangle with Olive and Bluto, he stops at nothing to try and win over his love interest, regardless of the constant knock backs.
"Good morning, sweetheart! Your lover boy is ready to get married."
Not perfect but,
"I yam what I yam"
7. Phillip J. Fry (Futurama)
"I get nervous, till my mouth feels like it's stuffed with peanut butter, even when it's not"
Not the most eloquent of speakers, but sweet none-the-less. Portrayed as a bit of a loser, he constantly surprises his co-workers. None more so than Leela, the object of his affection.
"Nobody stops to tell you what a great captain you are; you're smart, you're beautiful and best of all, you'll go out with me-e?"
6. Pongo (101 Dalmatians)
"As far as I could see, the old notion that a bachelor's life was so... glamorous and carefree was all nonsense. It was downright dull".
He fathered a litter of 15 pups and hooked up his owner in the process, he must be doing something right. Boy got it goin' on.
"Well, now that's a bit more like it! The most beautiful creature on four legs!"
5. Abraham de Lacy, Giuseppe Casey, Thomas O'Malley (The Aristocats)
"Obviously a philanderer who triffles with unsuspecting women's hearts"
Thomas O'Malley (renamed Romeo in the Italian version) wouldn't be out of place in any of the old Rat Pack films (if it weren't for him being a cat of course). He reminds me of a feline Dean Martin or someone of the like.
"Why, your eyes are like sapphires sparkling so bright. They make the morning radiant and light."
4. Roger Rabbit (Who Framed Roger Rabbit)
"You'd better believe it, buster." - Jessica Rabbit
A bit of a goof, but the ladies do love a guy that can make them laugh. How else do you explain his super hot wife, Jessica? (besides from the at-it-like-rabbits thing, that is).
Even in his time of need, he took the time to write a love letter to his wife. Ok so it was on the only piece of evidence to clear his name. It's the thought that counts though, right?
"That's right, my dear. I'd love to embrace you, but first, I have to satisfy my sense of moral outrage."
3. Homer Simpson (The Simpsons)
"You know, boys, a nuclear reactor is a lot like a woman. You just have to read the manual and press the right buttons"
I must admit, he wasn't the first person that came to mind. He's a slob, lazy, fat and a little bit selfish, but while researching this list I warmed to him. He's been married to Marge for decades now and despite several other offers he's remained loyal. He's by no means perfect, but as Homer put it himself:
"You know something, folks, as ridiculous as this sounds, I would rather feel the sweet breath of my beautiful wife on the back of my neck as I sleep, than stuff dollar bills into some stranger's G-string."
2. Tramp (Lady and the Tramp)
We all remember that bowl of spaghetti in the alley. Don't be telling me that you have never tried to re-enact this scene. Come ooooon...
"Life on a leash! Look again, Pige. Look, there's a great big hunk of world down there, with no fence around it, where two dogs can find adventure and excitement; and beyond those distant hills, who knows what wonderful experiences? And it's all ours for the taking, Pige. It's all ours."
1. Pepe Le Pew (Looney Tunes Show)
Dispite having a significant disadvantage when it comes to pulling the ladies, he remains positive and the word 'NO' does not seem to deter him (in fact, he sees this as a challenge).
"I am the locksmith of love, no?"
"You are the corned beef to me, and I am the cabbage to you. The corned beef is nothing without the cabbage."
He loves the chase (and a bit of a beating too it would seem). That is until the tables are turned:
"Why is it whenever a man is captured by a woman, all he wish to do is get away?"
That concludes the list! Please comment below to let us know what you think.
...and as Thomas O'Malley once said: Aloha, auf Wiedersehen, bon soir, sayonara, and all those good bye things, baby.comments powered by Disqus
