Totes Isotoner SmarTouch Review: Clever Gloves For Your iPhone!

touch screen gloves - gifts for him - winter gifts
What a simple and ingenious idea from those clever Totes Isotoner people.
Thanks to them, you can now operate touch screen devices while wearing gloves. They work with mobile phones (iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, and other SmartPhones), MP3 players (iPod), cash points, petrol pumps and GPS devices.
The SmarTouch Gloves have a conductive thread sewn into the thumb and index finger. This conveys an electrical impulse to the touch screen device, allowing you to keep nice and warm while playing with your iPhone.
SmarTouch Gloves are soft and woolly too. They certainly won't scratch or damage your touch screen in any way. Plus, they actually look like normal gloves, and come in a range of colours.
I've tested them and they work well enough for answering the phone, writing short text messages and playing simple games. I would say that they're not quite as perfect as using your bare finger. So, if you're planning on some serious touch-screen action I would suggest you wait until you get indoors. Although, most people do this anyway, right?
As for washing, well the label reads:
Hand wash in cool water. Dry flat away from heat. Re shape whilst damp.
The black pair I bought also have a suede palm-patch, which helps you grip your SmartPhone. They generally feel high quality and would make a nice gift.
However, at the time of writing, the 'touch-screen glove' concept is about a year old. Isotoner SmarTouch Gloves may have been one of the first companies to develop this idea, but they don't yet have a UK patent on the technology.
There are therefore, lots of alternatives to the Isotoner SmarTouch Gloves popping up every month, for a fraction of the price. I haven't personally tested them, so obviously don't know how good they are. But for a couple of quid, I think I might take a punt on one of the cheaper brands.
They are just woollen gloves after all, and chances are, they're going to get a bit dog-eared. Next winter you'll probably need to buy another pair.
So in other words, if you're buying as a gift, buy a well known, quality brand like the Totes Isotoner SmarTouch. If however, you want a pair yourself, take a look at these cheaper alternatives.
