In case you haven't already guessed from the name, it's a mug that stirs itself. But wait! Don't throw away your spoons just yet, we have a review for you to ogle over first.
Aimed at the lazy boy generation, the Self Stirring Mug is the perfect gift for anyone who finds stirring a chore. Simply press the yellow button located on the handle to activate the built in propeller.
The mug itself seems slightly larger than average and is powered by 2 x AAA batteries (not included). It has a bit of weight to it which gives it an overall feel of quality, but then I do love an aluminium finish. The button presses into action with ease and seems pretty sturdy.
The stirring device is located just inside the mug and is made of plastic, so thankfully no risk of chopped fingers (or large noses). It comes with a lid too which means you can stir and drink whilst on the move, be it to the couch or work, whatever.
When I first clicked the switch, I expected a loud whirring roar to burst out of the propeller type thing. What I got instead was a sleepy purring kitten. I suppose this makes sense, as like most people I enjoy my hot drink in the mug and not on the face!
Although essentially just a blunt piece of plastic, the mechanism is nothing to be sniffed at. It's definitely more powerful than it sounds. I find the whirlpool it creates rather mesmerising, possibly a little distracting at times. I have a disease and it's called procrastination.
I wasn't convinced at first. The idea of a Self Stirring Mug reminded me of the many useless-useful inventions you see on Dragons Den. Ok so they might solve some of life's little annoyances, but the saying 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' sprung to mind on numerous occasions. The more I thought about it though, the more I began to picture some of the scenarios such an item would be used. I'm a lover of hot chocolate but I hate the faff. Just think, no more intermittent stirring to avoid sediments at the bottom of the mug. Not to mention averting pesky wrist strain. Hallelujah!
One thing that does let this product down is the cleaning. It has to be hand washed so no dishwasher (unless the guys at Bluw Gifts are just assuming you have someone to wash up for you, of course). Microwaves are also a big no-no (obviously) given that it has metal parts and runs on batteries.
Although a natty little idea, I can't see myself running out and buying one these for personal use. It's not that I wouldn't like one. I just don't deem it essential nor do I want to look like a total nerd.
Let's face it though, the Self Stirring Mug is the ultimate novelty gift reserved for that lazy friend, co-worker or relative. It's also guaranteed to put a smile on your face and keep your dad entertained for hours.
If only there was some way it could refill and heat itself. Now that would be awesome. Asking too much? Perhaps I watched one too many Star Trek Voyagers growing up. One replicator please.
Right. Anyone fancy a self stirred mug of hot chocolate? Let's see what this baby can do.comments powered by Disqus
